Things to do while in WA.

A great day out to see some of WA unique history and the running of the 10 HRE Ruston Hornsby WEEKEND 9TH 10TH 11TH September after the National Rally.

New Norcia is a special place. It gently surprises and delights. It has a core integrity of monastic purpose, wrapped in layers of apparent contradictions that beg to be quietly explored. Most importantly, its community of monks continues to balance their personal spiritual search with a desire to share the history and natural gifts of their home with all who seek a respite from the world. -For further information see www.newnorcia.wa.edu.au/monastery

The Ruston Hornsby is Size 10HRE (E for electric hence to a heavy flywheel as it was connected to a generator to supply 440 volt power to the service station)

Engine No 433326 Bore 13 ½ inches 75HP RPM250 It is the largest of that type before they went into multiple cylinders. The engine, manufactured circa late 1940's 1950's was installed second hand around 1958 by the Shell Oil Company to power the roadhouse and hotel de-commissioned in 1972 when the WASEC grid came through.
