Tractor and Engine Registers.
We all like to find out Who, What, and Where, about the restoration jobs we do. Consequently we learn the important part played by the people who dedicate a lot of their time in researching information on the history of vintage machinery, and the companies who have manufactured them.
It is therefore beneficial to the movement that they are encouraged to attend our rallies.
To achieve this; we offer free sites to all recognised Vintage Machinery Registers at our forthcoming rally
Please contact our Rally Registrar Les Jones, with your requirements.

Interstate Machinery Movement.
Importing Machinery into Western Australia
All used agricultural, mining and earth-moving machinery or equipment arriving in Western Australia from other States and Territories is checked by quarantine inspectors for soil, plant material and restricted or prohibited seeds. Normal grime such as light road dust, light splash, grease, concrete or bitumen is not a concern.
Importers or exporters bringing machinery into Western Australia should ensure it is cleaned thoroughly prior to dispatch, to avoid being refused entry or having to pay commercial rates at quarantine approved cleaning premises.
Limited inspections are conducted at the Kununurra and Eucla road checkpoints and, if required, more detailed inspections take place at Kununurra town site or Kalgoorlie respectively.
Machinery arriving by rail is inspected at Kalgoorlie or Kewdale Rail Freight Terminal. Machinery arriving by sea is inspected at the port of entry. Machinery may also be inspected at Quarantine Registered Premises, at the inspector's discretion.
Prior to dispatch from the State of origin, importers or exporters are advised to obtain an Interstate Plant Health Certificate or a private company declaration to certify that the machinery is clean. While this will facilitate entry, it does not guarantee the machinery will pass the compulsory quarantine inspection on arrival in Western Australia.
Specific Requirements
Used machinery related to the potato and apple industries, or on land where these are grown, and machinery originating from areas contaminated by blueberry rust or red imported fire ant must be accompanied by Interstate Plant Health Certificates.
Used machinery related to the grape industry requires an import permit from the Department of Agriculture and Food Western Australia.
If the exporter can verify by declaration that it has been used more than two metres below ground, mining machinery may be accepted with some hard, “baked-on” sub-soil or ore in places that are difficult to access, provided all loose material is removed. If there is any doubt, the quarantine inspector may take samples to be examined by a soil pathologist, at the importer's cost.
New agricultural machinery is subject to declaration and inspection upon arrival. New machinery that has been field-tested is regarded as used machinery by Quarantine WA.

Oversize Vehicles
Customer Information Officer Luke Morgan, from Main Roads WA, points out that if your load is wider then 2.5m, higher then 4.3m, longer then 12.5m (rigid) or 19m (semi) then a permit is required.
Relevant information on oversize vehicles can be found in the Class 1 Oversize Operating Conditions Booklet, available on the Main Roads WA website.
The link below will take you to the relevant page on their website where you will find all appropriate application forms.
It should also be noted that if any of the tractors being moved exceeds one of more of the above dimensions, then a single trip permit application form will need to be submitted.
Steam and Boiler Requirements.
License Requirement for Boilers
1) All boilers with a water capacity of greater than 1 litre and a working pressure greater than 250 kPa and not exceeding 700 kPa, with a diameter greater than 100mm for steel and 50mm for copper must comply with the Australian Miniature Boiler Safety Committee (AMBSC) and have a current inspection certificate. The boiler shall not have a diameter of greater than 356 mm or a length of 2000 mm for steel boilers, or not exceed 203 mm diameter for copper . The AMBSC inspectors are usually members of a Club associated with the Australian Association of Live Steamers. Small boilers as described above may also be registered by a State WorkSafe inspectorate in place of the AMBSC.
2) All boilers larger than the above limitations MUST be registered with the local State WorkSafe where the boiler normally resides and have a current inspection certificate recognised by that State inspectorate.

MacDonald Register.
John and Lorraine Touzel are well known around the Vintage Machinery Rally Circuit. John has helped countless numbers of enthusiasts with information on their MacDonald equipment. In addition to helping people he has diligently researched records and recorded vital information so important to the historical past of Australian Industry.
I am sure a lot of people will be using John's information for many years to come.

|
With distance being no problem to John and Lorraine, and the Nullarbor's Eyre Highway just another road to reach a Rally; they will be available once again to assist MacDonald enthusiasts.

It is predicted that this will be the largest collection of this type, ever to be displayed in Western Australia and possibly all of Australia.

Please contact the Secretary for more information.
Holiday Reports
The Nullarbor Trip - "Across the Big Paddock".
To a lot of people driving across Australia can be rather daunting; no one can argue that it is certainly a long way. The Nullarbor Plain is undoubtedly the part that requires the most attention, with long stretches between settlements and relative safety. I have, like many others, done this trip many times and have no fear of going across the Paddock; but I have never dropped my guard or lost respect for the possible problems which could occur. If you plan driving across for the first time, having travelling companions is a good idea, and it also makes it more fun.
Fuel stops are no problem, and the longest stretch of 190 klms is between Balladonia and Norseman. A word of warning here - don't let cheaper fuel along the track lure you into taking a risk of not paying a few more cents when you are filling your tank at another Roadhouse. It could mean a long walk, plus the bloke who told you - "It's cheaper down the track mate", won't be there to help you. A spare can of fuel amongst the other spares is probably a good idea.
For those of you towing a caravan there are lots of good campsites with conveniences along the way, plus caravan parks at most settlements. The book 'Camps Five' gives you lots of information and is money well spent. Motel accommodation is also easy to find; a phone call may help to secure your booking after a long day behind the wheel. Caravanners will need to work out meal requirements because when you go through the border into WA, you will have to surrender any honey, nuts or fruit and vegetables which are not cooked. There are no shops, only Roadhouses, until Norseman; more than a day's drive towing a caravan.
To get to Fairbridge Village near Pinjarra, you turn left off the Great Eastern Highway at Midland onto the Roe Highway. After approximately 15 klms, turn left onto the John Tonkin Highway, and at the end turn left on to Thomas Road. At the T junction (approx. 2kms) turn right on to the South West Highway towards Bunbury. You will find Fairbridge Village on the left about five klms before Pinjarra.
I hope this article will be of some assistance to those who are coming over and make your journey a little better.
Happy Travelling.
Hidden Treasures.
Usually on our caravan trips, we come across at least one ‘hidden treasure’; invariably in an out of
the way place or town, or at the back of a shop, and entry to view these is normally only a gold coin
donation.
This trip we found three of these ‘treasures’ and we would like to share them with you, and for
those of you travelling to or from the Eastern States, you may like to look them up for yourselves.
